MOKELE-MBEMBE

This creature's lair is in the depths of Africa's Congo. It's numerous names (see beow) have many meanings such as, "one that stops the flow of rivers" and "monstrous animal." Its basic description (5-10 m from head to tail, long neck, 3-toed footprints) is cause for belief that it could be related to dinosaurs from the sauropod group. Extensive searches have been conducted throughout the swamplands of Congo, and there is little ground left to be uncovered.

However, this does not prevent the natives from maintaining that mokele-mbembe exists - they claim that the creature lives in swamps, eating plant matter and tipping people's boats. It's closest relatives, the sauropods, died 70 million years ago, but locals say that they have seen it's reddish-brown reptilian skin. Sightings seemed to be concentrated around Lake Tele, but one would expect that something that large would not be that elusive. As always, we must wait for some sort of conclusive evidence before making our decision over this enigmatic creature's existence.
